A stagehand who finds joy in the work, Austin’s journey began with carpentry in his garage alongside his father, who passed down valuable skills and knowledge without even realizing it would lead to a career in technical theatre. From working as a lighting and sound director in church AV to finding a family with Theatre Troupe 6898, the call to technical theatre was clear.
In college, Austin studied theatre education for two years before realizing that design and tech were his true passion. He added a lighting emphasis and took sound classes to build a well-rounded skill set. Drawing from the hands-on skills learned with his family, he applied them to modern theatre work, honing his craft in carpentry and design while working in the Texas Performing Arts Fabrication studios.
Now a proud member of Local Union 205, Austin aims to continue working with traveling stage companies across America. Though his portfolio is still growing, one day a high school will call him Mr. Luchak—but until then, it’s just Austin.
